My friend Jim Hoagland (@JimHoagland) told me this story at the Natural Products Expo in Anaheim yesterday: “I grew up in urban New Jersey surrounded by concrete and cement. When I went to college and moved to North Carolina, I was engulfed in greeness and eager to tend a garden. One day, I was so enthusiastic about my progress that I called my mother to tell her I was growing my own fruits and vegetables. She responded: ‘What, don’t they have any supermarkets down there?’ (said with a Jersey accent)
