There will always be more to do each day than time or resources allow. You cannot possibly complete all that needs to be done. Start with this knowledge. It will be both a source of frustration and joy.
Many tasks will seem light and pleasant and some will be strenuous and daunting. They are all the same. At times you will feel overwhelmed; and at others confused about where to begin. Some days you will feel clear and inspired, directed from within. Other mornings will bring nothing but fog.
Discover the rhyme and rhythm of your work. Track it like the seasons. Some tasks will be very hard— back breaking and beyond your reach. Some will require a light hand and deliver a fleeting lark of gratification. Others you will float through, like flat-bottomed clouds passing in a summer sky.
Begin each day with the task that is most challenging. Choose that which is least pleasant or desirable. Do this first. Do it fully and completely. Enter it with a full heart and an empty mind. If you can allow joyful effort to well up within, you will be propelled through that which moments earlier seemed impossible. Putting that which is challenging behind you frees you to do meaningful work which was previously unknown and unseen.
When you are stuck, track your obstinance; where you are holding back. Let this challenger stand starkly in front of you. Don’t ignore or avoid. Size up what stands in your way. Circle it, stare it down. Then walk right through it to that which needs doing.
